Construction started in late 1923 by local dentist Dr. Josiah R. King, and completed on 29 March 1924. Named King's Court, this garden courtyard apartment community was considered an upscale location at the time. Dr. King passed in 1936. By August 1947 the property had been purchased by Dr. CL Castle who applied for a permit to convert them to doctor's offices. They remained commercial space until they were purchased by the current owner who applied to the city to have the units converted back into residential. Currently the property is not designated historical, but it is located in the historical district and is a contributor to the historical district.
8 one bedroom units, consisting of the 4 original duplex buildings and one club house where the garage formerly stood. The floor plans are basically the same as when built, but now feature modern amenities such as laundry areas and dishwashers.
The majority of the plants are California natives. This reduces the required water consumption and need for fertilizing. Pest control is the responsibility of the local lizard population. The garden features the multi-teared water fountain, bee homes, and several bird houses. The intent is to provide food, water & shelter for our native animals who visit and live in the garden. You'll see bumblebees, honey bees, butterflies, and an assortment of hummingbirds.
